Join the 18th!

The 18e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne is now accepting recruits.

For those interested in recreating the life and experi
ences of the average French Soldier, or “Poilu”, this is the unit for you! Our membership consists of experienced living history practitioners who have reenacted and researched many different time periods. Our unit strives to maintain only the highest standards of historical accuracy in our uniforms and equipment as well as our demeanor and activity.

Our membership is located primarily in the northeast and mid-Atlantic states; however, we now have members in the Midwest and we welcome any and all who have an interest in commemorating the struggle of the Poilu.

How to Join

If you are interested in joining the 18th, or are interested in finding out more about the unit, please send a message through the comment form on the Homepage, or email to cwarren64@hotmail.com

Also feel free to check out our Facebook page for more information about our unit and how to join.

Uniform and Equipment

The unit has uniforms and equipment to loan out for a new member's first few events. Most of our uniform items and much of our equipment are made by members of the unit and of the Bataillon Français; they have achieved standards of historical accuracy that surpass those of other vendors. New members will have plenty of guidance in acquiring all other items necessary for their Poilu impression.

Parlez-vous français?

The ability to speak French is not required, only a desire to learn a few basic commands! However, we do encourage members to learn French if interested and willing.

Time Commitment

In addition to the tactical events held each April and November at the GWA site in Newville, PA, the 18e hosts a number of workdays throughout the year to maintain and improve our trenchline. Members of the unit also participate in a variety of Living History events around the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. The number of events you can attend is up to you, but each member is expected to contribute to the unit.
